Don Bosco Hall Annouces Grand Opening of New Community Resource Center at St. Suzanne's Education Building
With new funding from the Kresge Foundation and the Skillman Foundation’s Good Neighborhood Initiative, Don Bosco Hall will open a new Community Resource Center at St. Suzanne’s Education Building, with a grand opening ceremony on Saturday, May 9, 2009.
The opening will be held at St. Suzanne, located at 9357 Westwood Street, Detroit, Mich., and will include an open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:30 a.m. A parade, festival, games and food will also be available.
The Educational building is a 50,000 square foot facility complete with 25 large meeting rooms/classrooms/offices and full gymnasium with auditorium stage, a full cafeteria with kitchen a large outside activities ground.
In keeping with Don Bosco Hall’s 55 year mission the goal of the new Don Bosco Hall Community Resource Center is to empower, children, youth and their families to reach their fullest potential through targeted supportive services, programs and youth development activities.
Youth activities include: Art Classes, Marital Arts, Mentoring, Music Classes, Youth Programs include classes for Substance Abuse Prevention, Counseling, GED Preparation, and Leadership Development. Families can get support from Financial planning classes, Nutrition classes and Neighborhood Development programs.
Created in 1960, The Skillman Foundation is a private philanthropy whose chief aim is to help develop good schools and good neighborhoods for children. Though grants are made throughout metropolitan Detroit, most grants are directed at six Detroit neighborhoods – Southwest Detroit (Vernor and Chadsey/Condon) Brightmoor, Osborn and Cody/ Rouge and the Northend – and toward innovative successful schools throughout the city of Detroit.
The Kresge foundation’s Human services team focuses on the facility requirement of community-based organizations. We are most concerned with the populations being served and the quality of care provided. Kresge support s the facility needs of organizations that offer opportunity and access to the most vulnerable disadvantage and low-income people in order to improve their quality of life. The values representing this effort are creating opportunity, serving undeserved geography, promoting diversity and strengthening community.
